As many area kids start preparing for their return to school, Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves encourages motorists to also start preparing to be extra vigilant, especially during their morning commute to work.

"The beginning of the school year is almost always a time of excitement for children, but this year it may be even more so with many of them having not seen some of their friends and teachers since March," stated Sheriff Groves.

"In their excitement, kids may forget some of the safety rules about waiting for the bus, crossing the street and riding their bikes, so not only is it a great time for parents to remind their young students about staying safe, but also for motorists to start allowing a few extra minutes to get to and from their daily destinations.  Finally, we encourage parents to remind older siblings who may be driving their younger brothers and sisters to school to set an example by wearing their seatbelts," concluded Sheriff Groves.
