Drug Take back

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office will turn over nearly 350 pounds of prescription drugs to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration this week as part of the National Drug Take Back.

The Drug Take Back Events, held each spring and fall throughout the country, have proven incredibly valuable to residents who have the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs.

"We have consistently seen this program being an important service to offer our community, and have expanded the opportunity to safely dispose of prescription drugs with the addition of drug drop boxes in the lobbies of the Galena Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office," stated Sheriff David Groves.

"We are thankful for the communities support and participation in the Drug Take Back Program because it means removing drugs which may otherwise become stolen or unintentionally taken, posing a health risk," concluded Sheriff Groves
