5th Suspect Arrested In Drug Investigation

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a fifth suspect over the weekend as part of an investigation which led to the execution of three Scammon area search warrants and the seizure of meth and cocaine last month.

Gregg Benedict, 46, of Scammon, was taken into custody on Saturday, July 6th on an outstanding arrest warrant for Possessing Methamphetamine and Drug Paraphernalia.  He remains in the Cherokee County Jail.

Suspects previously arrested at the time of the raids on June 14th include:

Domenic Castagno, who remains in the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Possessing Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possessing Methamphetamine, Criminal Use of a Firearm, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and two counts of Aggravated Child Endangerment

Barney Castagno, 59, who remains in the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Possessing Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Two other suspects who were arrested during the search warrant executions, Paula Becker, age 50 and 22-year-old Hannah Briley, have since been released from custody and are awaiting trial on allegations of various drug related crimes.
