AAA Platinum Award

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves was presented the AAA Community Traffic Safety Platinum Award at Monday’s County Commission Meeting.

Kansas Department of Transportation Law Enforcement Liaison Dave Corp, in presenting the award, noted the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is the only Sheriff’s Office in Kansas to have received the AAA Award in each of the eight years since the program began, with Cherokee County receiving the Platinum Award for the past six consecutive years.

Corp thanked the commission for continuing to support initiatives and programs implemented by the Sheriff’s Office, which has contributed to an increase in seatbelt usage rates and a decrease in traffic fatalities.

“They truly are the best of the best,” added Corp.

“Injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes are many times avoidable, so traffic safety is a priority to our office because the safety of our citizens is a priority,” stated Sheriff David Groves.

“We are fortunate to not only have a team of law enforcement professionals who are dedicated to making our roadways safer, but also by having strong partnerships with the commission, state and local transportation departments, schools, businesses and community leaders because it takes all of us, working together, to continue moving in a positive direction,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
