The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to take some basic steps to help safeguard against theft following the Christmas Holiday.

When you set trash out by the curb, please remember that large boxes serve as a notice to thieves as to what new items you have in your home. Take a few moments to break the boxes down or consider recycling them.

The Sheriff’s Office also recommends citizens taking their cell phones and snapping a couple of pictures of any new items, especially firearms (including serial numbers), electronics and jewelry. Should those items be stolen in the future, a photograph will significantly aid law enforcement in recovering them.
