Two Vehicle Crash Leaves One Man Dead, Another Man Injured

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash, which occurred Saturday afternoon at Northwest 10th and Belleview Road, northwest of Columbus.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1:34 p.m., a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by 45 year-old Joseph Bennett III, of Scammon was traveling northbound on Northwest 10th Street when it was struck by a westbound 2006 Ford F150 truck driven by 31 year-old Daniel Irwin, of rural Pittsburg.

Northwest 10th and Belleview Road is a rural intersection, controlled by a 4 way stop.

Irwin was transported to a Joplin area hospital where he is being treated for injuries sustained in the crash. Bennett was transported to Mercy Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus, where he was later pronounced dead.
