Two Arrested Following Alleged Incident Involving Gun

Two suspects are facing felony charges following an investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office into an alleged incident outside of Galena earlier this week.

On Sunday afternoon, deputies began investigating allegations that 22 year-old Dylan Freeze of Liberal, Missouri and Gregory Smith, 54, of Galena, threatened a woman outside of Smith’s home, where Freeze reportedly brandished a handgun.

The Cherokee County Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges of Aggravated Assault on Freeze and Criminal Threat on Smith.  Arrest warrants for both suspects were then issued by the Cherokee County District Court.

Late Tuesday night, deputies observed Freeze leaving Smith’s residence and conducted a traffic stop at the Dollar General Store in Galena.  Freeze was taken under arrest and Smith was taken into custody simultaneously at his home.

After obtaining a search warrant for Freeze’s vehicle, a handgun was discovered along with drug paraphernalia items.

Smith has since posted $2,500.00 bail and Freeze was also released Wednesday afternoon after posting $8,000.00 bond.
