Sheriff's Office Plunges for Special Olympics

The men and women of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office were honored to once again help raise money for Special Olympics Kansas by participating in the Polar Plunge event on Saturday in Pittsburg.

“This year, we had 12 members on our team who together raised over $2,000.00,” stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves. “It’s a privilege for us to be able to support area residents and families who benefit from the activities and services provided by the Special Olympics Kansas. Despite the temperature being in the mid 30’s and the water temperature barely over freezing, there was a great crowd on hand and organizers tell us this was one of the events most successful years and it’s estimated the Pittsburg Polar Plunge will have raised over $30,000.00 this year,” concluded Groves.

Members of the 2016 Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Polar Plunge Team include: David Groves, Michelle Tippie, Shane Gibson, Gina Brumback, Noble Dobkins, Brad Knight, Juliana Miller, Chey Lewis, Lucas Ross, Steve Watson, Brian Kerns, Terry Lang and Taylor Haynes.
