Meth and Marijuana Seized During Traffic Stop

During the course of an ongoing narcotics investigation, at about 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14th, 2016, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office stopped a 2008 Suzuki near U.S. Highway 166 and Prairie Road, which is north of the I-44 exit in Southeastern Cherokee County.

A narcotic detection K-9 team from the Newton County (Missouri) Sheriff’s Office assisted with the traffic stop and a search was conducted of the vehicle where investigators discovered a considerable amount of methamphetamine, with a street value of approximately $3,200.00, along with along with marijuana and paraphernalia.

Arrested at the scene were Earnest Michael Hensley Jr., 37, of Galena and 18 year-old Carousel Michelle Bogatay, of Joplin.  Both suspects were transported to the Cherokee County Jail.

Hensley is being held on allegations of Possessing Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  His bond is set at $15,000.00.

Bogatay is being held in lieu of $27,000.00 bond on allegations of Possessing Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possessions of Misdemeanor Drug Paraphernalia and Trafficking Contraband into a Correctional Facility.

Formal charges are expected to be filed later today.
