Just after 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23rd, 2015, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a field near Main and Katy on the north edge of Scammon.  Upon their arrival, deputies discovered the body of 35 year-old Shannon Fonda of Midland, Texas.

The scene was secured and investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation arrived a short time later.

Customarily with unattended deaths, investigations are conducted with the thoroughness of homicide investigations, unless or until the facts and evidence prove them to be otherwise.

In that regard, the scene was processed, as was Ms. Fonda’s vehicle, which was found at the same location.

In addition, an autopsy was performed in Kansas City on Tuesday morning and it was determined that Ms. Fonda died from shock and complications due to burns on her body.

Investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding Ms. Fonda’s death.
