Ensure that Halloween is a Safe Night of Fun in Cherokee County

10/16/2013

With Halloween fast approaching, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that there are approximately 70 registered sex offenders in the county, and we want you to know where they reside so that you can plan a safe night of trick-or-treating with your kids and grandkids.

“Our office conducts regular compliance checks on registered offenders to make sure they are living where they report to us, and those efforts intensify in the weeks leading up to Halloween,” says Sheriff David Groves.

During this time of year especially, residents are urged to go to our website, www.cherokeecountykssheriff.com, and take advantage of the free online offender tracking and mapping service.  Citizens are encouraged to check any addresses in neighborhoods where they or their family spend time and register those addresses, so we can send email notifications any time an offender moves into a specified radius.

“You can register any and all of the addresses where your children spend a lot of time; for example friend’s, grandparent’s, or babysitter’s addresses” says Sheriff Groves. The alerts are in real-time and sent out via e-mail as soon as a new offender has registered with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.  “The benefit of registering for this free and confidential e-mail alert service is that it allows us to monitor your important addresses for you, thereby keeping you up to date of newly registered offenders and making it unnecessary for you to have to check your important addresses daily or even weekly,” continued Groves.

Once at our website, residents can click on the link “locate registered sex offenders” and follow the instructions to check their neighborhood and sign up to receive FREE e-mail alerts.
