Sheriff's Office Receives Over $105,000.00 COPS Grant

09/30/2013

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves was notified late last week by the Office of United States Senator Jerry Moran and the Office of United States Attorney Barry Grissom (District of Kansas) that the Sheriff's Office has been awarded a 2013 COPS Hiring Program Grant.

"Earlier this year, USD 493 Superintendent David Carriger approached me about a desire to have an additional School Resource Officer in the district," stated Sheriff Groves.

"I then began researching funding options and several months ago began the application process through the Department of Justice."

"Ensuring that our children are provided a safe learning environment is a critical and multi-faceted job and I'm proud that we were able to secure this funding, which will allow us to better meet our objective."

Over $105,000.00 will be awarded to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to fully fund the position for the next several years.

"I'm appreciative for the support we received on this project from Senator Moran, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins and the USD 493 District Administration," concluded Groves.
