The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to welcome State Farm Insurance and Agent Terry Bessman, whose office is located at 120 North Kansas Avenue in Columbus, to our team of partners in the Cherokee County S.A.F.E. (Seatbelts Are For Everyone) Program.

The S.A.F.E. Program is a cooperative effort between students, law enforcement and safety advocates.

By design, the students provide peer involvement, input and maintain the program.  Law Enforcement provides enforcement and traffic safety education, while the safety advocates provide the funding and educational support.

According to Sheriff David Groves, “State Farm Agent Terry Bessman recently contacted me about ways he and his office could help in keeping the young drivers in our community safe.  I am honored today to accept a check, on behalf of the Cherokee County S.A.F.E. Program, for $2,500.00 from Mr. Bessman and State Farm Insurance, through their Celebrate My Drive Program.  We are thrilled to have our local State Farm Insurance office join other great partners in this program, such as Labette Bank, Mike Carpino Ford, Jay Hatfield Chevrolet and Columbus Telephone Company.”

This program has proven successful in increasing seatbelt usage rates among Cherokee County High School students, ultimately saving lives.

In addition to local sponsors, state-wide sponsors include the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Trauma Program, AAA of Kansas and the Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Center.
