Early Monday afternoon, April 23rd, 2012, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglary in progress at a home located just southwest of Columbus.

The home-owner had returned to the residence, prompting the suspect to flee the scene.

However, the home-owner followed the suspect, and alerted the 911 dispatcher of their location and route.

A Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy soon intercepted the suspect vehicle, which slid off of the roadway on a dead-end county road.

At that time the suspect, 40 year-old Jeffrey A. Jones, of Galena, was taken into custody.

Formal charges against Jones were filed in Cherokee County District Court on Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

Jones remains in the Cherokee County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 bond on charges of Burglary, Criminal in Possession of a Firearm, Theft and Criminal Damage to Property.
