Two Arrested in Weir Bank Robbery Case

At approximately 1:15 p.m., on Thursday, July 21,  2011, the Cherokee County  Sheriff’s Office responded to a robbery at the Citizens Bank of Weir, located in Weir, Kansas.

Two suspects reportedly entered the bank, demanded money and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect’s description, along with a description of the vehicle they were driving, was immediately broadcast to area law enforcement agencies.

Within a couple of hours, a citizen observed suspicious activity in Webb City, Missouri, and reported it.

The description he provided law enforcement matched that of the robbery suspects.   The Webb City Police Department responded to the area, where they apprehended the two men and recovered the stolen money.

On Friday morning, formal charges were filed in Cherokee County District Court on 38 year-old Derrick Dewayne McDonald and 23 year-old Roland Ross, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Both have been charged with Aggravated Robbery in Kansas, and federal charges are expected to be filed.

At this time, bond has been set at $100,000.00 each.

The case was investigated by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Weir Police Department, Webb City Police Department, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
