One Fatality in Early Morning Accident

At 6:29 a.m., on Monday, October 4, 2010, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a one vehicle accident between Northwest 40th and Northwest 50th on Starvalley Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the 1997 Chevy extended cab truck had been traveling westbound, left the roadway on the north side, then crossed back over the roadway and rolled into the south ditch.

The driver, George L. Sollers, 34, of rural Columbus, had been partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, 36 year-old Travis Hallam, of Scammon, was transported by Cherokee County Ambulance Services to Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg as a precautionary measure.
