Cherokee County Sheriff's Deputies and other emergency personnel were dispatched to a motorcycle crash near Southwest 20th and Greenlawn Road, south of Columbus, around 12:21 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

The preliminary investigation, being conducted by the Sheriff's Office, indicates a 2023 KTM Enduro Motorcycle, operated by 57-year-old Dan Hartzell, of Fort Worth, Texas, was traveling eastbound on
Southwest Greenlawn Road, when he struck a dog, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle.  

Mr. Hartzell was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Cherokee County Ambulance Service transported Mr. Hartzell to Mercy Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus, where he was pronounced deceased.
