Arrest for Felon in Possession of Firearm, Counterfeiting, and drug charges

Topic: Search Warrant 

On October 6, 2026, a detective with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office received information about a felon, who was in possession of a firearm.  While conducting the investigation the detective was able to obtain a Search Warrant for an address in Galena.  

On October 9, 2026, members of the Cherokee County SWAT team served the search warrant at 1019 N. Jefferson, in Galena.  During the warrant service detectives located additional weapons , narcotics, paraphernalia, and counterfeit money.  

Jonathon D. Hamm, age 34, of Galena was taken into custody and transported to the Cherokee County Jail where he was booked for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Use of a Weapon, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Counterfeiting.  Charges will be submitted to the Cherokee County Attorney's Office.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Galena Police Department and the Cherokee County Attorney's Office.
