Do Not Grow Weary of Doing Good

Wednesday night at youth church, I was helping some of the kids learn the Bible and memorize verses. About 20 minutes into it, a middle school girl came up and wanted to recite a verse she had memorized. Galatians 6:9, "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."

 

I'd heard it before but for some reason when she said it so proudly, the verse stayed with me the rest of the evening and since.

 

It seems easy to grow weary, whether you're in law enforcement responding to tragic and horrific scenes, a nurse seeing a kind patient experiencing end of life, a teacher who sees a student struggling - not necessarily with schoolwork, but a troubled home life - a store clerk or waitress whose customers are demanding and rude or even someone on another walk of life who just feels the burden of bills, stress... life.

 

The encouragers can seem to be scarce at times but each one of us have an ability - and arguably a societal obligation - to do our part to help others get through the day.

 

Kindness, patience and understanding cost nothing but is invaluable to those who receive it. My hope is that you are not only weary free, but that we all strive to make a conscious effort to be more kind to others, even strangers.
