Independence Day Message

As we celebrate Independence Day with family and friends, I hope we can take a few moments to reflect on the incredible courage and foresight of our Founding Fathers and express appreciation for all the brave men and women who have fought throughout the generations to protect our Republic.

As I think about Independence Day, like most people, I think of our unalienable rights of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.  Those rights empower us to do and accomplish so much!

One thing they enable us to do is contribute to the betterment of our community.  We have the freedom to choose between seeing something that needs done and hoping someone else will do it or stepping up and doing it ourselves.  We have the freedom to search for reasons to get angry or be patient and understanding.  We have the freedom to post or share a snarky comment online or remember it's best to not say anything if you're not going to say something nice.  We have the freedom to act in ways that frustrate others or we can attempt rational conversations to resolve issues.  We have the freedom to criticize those attempting to make things better or we can offer assistance and support.

Cherokee County is an absolutely amazing place to call home and because of our freedoms we all have the ability - and arguably the responsibility - to come together and make our community better tomorrow than it was yesterday.

Have fun, stay safe and God Bless!
