Advance Directives Provided by Kansas Sheriffs' Association

One of the realities we often don't like to talk about, but encounter within our community on a fairly regular basis is the fact our loved ones can find themselves in a horrific situation, whether that comes as the result of a tragic car crash or sudden health emergency.

Regardless of the form of traumatic incident, family members who are left with making critical decisions on behalf of their family member, often struggle, especially if there is no guidance from the person they are acting on behalf of.

Recognizing the importance of providing that guidance, and seeing firsthand the anguish family members experience in not knowing what their loved one would want, the Kansas Sheriffs' Association has partnered with the Kansas Bar Association in providing all Kansans -free of charge - easy to complete legal forms for assigning a Durable Power of Attorney, Living Will and / or Do Not Resuscitate Orders.

These forms take only a few minutes to complete but can give you and your loved ones incredible peace of mind, should you ever need them.

You can access the forms at the Kansas Sheriffs' Association website,www.kansassheriffs.org. From there, just click on the Advance Directive Project / Living Will tab.  Again, these are easy to complete, are legally approved in the State of Kansas, are provided by Kansas Sheriffs free of charge and could be one of the quickest and best things you can do for your family members.  We recommend you have them notarized once completed and distribute them to your local doctor, hospital, and whoever else you feel appropriate.

Hopefully these aren't necessary for any of you, but it's one of those things it's better to have and not need than need and not have.

Stay safe and God Bless,

Sheriff David Groves
