Thanksgiving Message

With Thanksgiving this week, I have been reflecting on some of the amazing things that have occurred over the past year.

During that time, I was blessed to have been sworn in to serve my second term as your Sheriff and I was honored to be the featured Sheriff in the September issue of the National Sheriff's Association magazine and to have recently received the 2013 Kansas Sheriff of the Year Award.

I am proud of these recognitions because they reflect the hard work given each day by the men and women who serve in your sheriffs office and their committed efforts towards making our neighborhoods and communities safer.  The recognitions also reflect the incredible support that we receive from you!  I can try to implement various programs and undertake projects, but without the support of the citizens I serve, those projects would not make it off the ground, let alone be successful.

I also have been thinking about what makes this county great, and in short, it's all of you!  We are close, and we share in each other's successes and come to aid when we see a neighbor struggle.  It is that way of living life that makes this the strong community it is.

For these reasons and so many more, I am thankful.  I am thankful for the privilege to serve as your Sheriff, I am thankful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated and professional public servants, I am thankful to be able to have so many of you as friends and supporters in our efforts, I am thankful for the men and women who have fought - and continue to fight - for our freedom and I am thankful for this great place we all call home.

May God Bless each of you during the upcoming holiday season!

Sheriff David Groves
