Neglected Animals Confiscated by Sheriff's Office

02/27/2010

Earlier this week, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office was notified of several animals, three horses and two burros, located east of Baxter Springs, which were not receiving proper food and water.

At that time, our office contacted the owner, making her aware of the situation and giving her the opportunity to properly care for them.

Unfortunately, the owner failed to do so.

As a result, our office worked Friday to find an alternative location where the animals would be properly cared for, and schedule a veterinarian to examine the animals.

On Saturday morning, February 27th, 2010, the sheriff's office confiscated the five animals and they were transported to an area ranch, for temporary housing and care.

At least one horse, which had apparently died some time ago, was also found on the property.

At this time, the investigation into this case continues.
