Two Columbus Women Jailed Following Warrant

Two Columbus women are behind bars after the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics related search warrant on their home Friday morning.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., investigators served the warrant at 514 South High School Avenue.

During the course of the search, suspected narcotics and paraphernalia items were discovered, leading investigators to arrest 38 year-old Amy Helton and 37 year-old Aarika Hawkins, who is already a registered drug offender having been previously convicted of drug sales.

Both women are being held in the Cherokee County Jail in lieu of $6,000.00 bond on allegations of Possessing Methamphetamine, Possessing Marijuana and Possessing Drug Paraphernalia.

“This is yet another residence located near two schools where lots of kids and citizens walk by on a regular basis,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

“Even more concerning, perhaps, is that Hawkins, who had been ordered to register as a drug offender, had reported her occupation as babysitting in the home.  I’m proud of the work done by our investigators and deputies on disrupting this suspected criminal activity,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
