Sklyer Gurnee Charged with First Degree Murder

Cherokee County Attorney Nathan Coleman formally charged Skyler C. Gurnee, 19, of rural Columbus, with one count of pre-meditated first degree murder on Tuesday afternoon.
The charge stems from an incident early Monday morning in Hallowell, where sheriff’s deputies discovered 20 year old William “Joey” Stephens had been shot and killed.
Following a search of the area, deputy's located Gurnee a short time later and detained him.
Gurnee, who was injured during the incident, had been hospitalized since that time, but was released from hospital care on Tuesday and has since been transported to the Cherokee County Jail where he remains without bond.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
