Columbus Man Sentenced to Over 26 Years in Prison For Child Sex Crimes

Brian Curtis Stewart, 38, of Columbus, was sentenced to 313 months imprisonment on Friday in Cherokee County District Court.

Following his two-day criminal trial in January, a Cherokee County Jury found Stewart guilty of one count of rape and five counts of aggravated incident liberties of a child, crimes which Stewart committed between March and late August 2016.

Stewart was prosecuted by Cherokee County Attorney Kurt Benecke.

Following the trial, Stewart was remanded to the custody of the Cherokee County Jail, where he remains pending transfer to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
